“Everyone has the ability to do it, I did it, and so can you!”
As a 21-year-old college student, Jeff experienced a motorcycle accident. He underwent a 9-hour surgery and awoke surrounded by friends and family, missing a limb, with no memory of the incident. With the care and support of his loved ones, he was able to find a new life as an amputee, and eventually a new career path. Jeff graduated from Florida International University with his Bachelors in Prosthetics and Orthotics and has been helping patients like himself ever since! Jeff’s personal experience as an amputee brings a special perspective to the care he provides. He develops a connection with patients that goes beyond his technical knowledge.
Each patient connection is unique but many tend to “light up” when they realize he intimately understands their journey. Jeff’s patients gain comfort and strength on the road to recovery, knowing that they can have their questions answered by not only a clinical expert but a peer. Jeff knows the obstacles you might encounter as a new amputee, but he also knows that they can be overcome, and that “there is life after amputation”.
Jeff explains to his patients that he can design the best fitting and functioning device, but “it is not the device that allows them to walk again, it is the patient that makes the device walk.” The healing process can look different for many patients. Jeff understands the importance of being mentally and emotionally prepared, but Jeff wants patients to know that “everyone has the ability to do it, I did it, and so can you!”
